My Motivation: From Newsroom to Boardroom

📣 After 25+ years managing media strategy, coaching executives, and guiding public-facing institutions through pressure-packed moments… I’m stepping out from behind the scenes.

Why?
Because too many leaders are forced to “wing it” when the cameras roll or when a crisis hits, and I’ve seen how that plays out. (Spoiler: A single poor interview can create lingering and damaging negativity for your organization)

From my time inside Ontario’s healthcare system during real public health and cyberattack crises… to defending institutional trust and promoting cutting-edge research at Western and York Universities…
To crafting messages for political leaders at Queen’s Park…
I’ve stood in the fire and helped others address the media microphone with clarity and control.

I've developed my media savvy from having worked in the media: as a reporter and field producer for CTV Kitchener and later as a frontline communicator uniquely charged with promoting media to media at The Globe and Mail, TSN & CTV Sports, and The Discovery Channel.

And before that, I was entrusted with building the impact of sport, specifically tennis, by leading communications with grassroots initiatives to drive participation locally. That work was then amplified by my outeach to international audiences by leading communications supporting world-class professional championships for Tennis Canada in partnership with the WTA and ATP Tours.

Now, through Speaking of Media, I’m removing the mystery and hesitancy for those thrust into the spotlight by imparting these tangible skills:

>How to prepare for, and respond to, organizational scrutiny and crises
>How to build and nurture your reputation, not just protect it

This isn’t media theory. It’s a leadership skillset.
And it’s time for more professionals to master it.
